Dinner with the Chefs @ Hikaru’s Place (4th of November, 2009)

You can’t even begin to imagine having 6 chefs making dinner for one another. It is absolutely amazing!!!

The specialty of the night?

KING CRAB!!!! [Hot pot style]

On a cold Fall night, it was the puuuurrrffect choice of food.

Daiji-san & Eriko-san: Cracking open the shells of the LIVE KING CRAB!!

Hello, crabby. You are going into all our bellies!

ALIEENNN!! That’s what this reminds me of.

Other delicacies in our menu for the night:

OYSTERSSSSS. Fresh BC oysters, yum!!

The semi de-shelled king crab… surrounded by booze. We have raging alcoholics in the house.

Hikaru’s mummy bought him a gigantus bottle of sho chu (middle) and Iwa-san bought the other big bottle (right) of… sho chu/sake. Not sure which. All of which (as with the beer), I had no hand in helping them finish.

The intimidation I felt being surrounded by talented chefs… mixed with the excitement of eating glorious food!!

My favourite fungus. Actually, my favourite fungus is Chanterelle mushrooms, followed by Oyster mushrooms, Shimeji mushrooms, Enoki mushrooms… Love, love, love em!!

So you take it like this…

And you dip it like that!! And you dip it into any sort of sauce (we used ponzu) and plop it into your mouth!! Omgosh… I am getting ridiculously hungry just talking about it.

Jay came to join us a little later! Poor fellow missed the King Crab bit though!! Man, they both are so buddy buddy…. too buddy, buddy -_-

It was also Eriko’s birthday!!

She was so surprised, she cried! So sweet

That was a fabulous experience!

Amazing people with amazing food = Superbly superb doubly thumbs up eating experience!!!

Too bad they only do this yearly. I am already looking forward to next year’s gathering!
